What you need to know about Englewood, Florida
Englewood's history dates back to ancient times with archaeological findings of ceramics associated with the Weeden Island culture and Safety Harbor culture. In the late 19th century, one of the earliest settlers, William Goff, arrived from Tampa. Englewood's original plat was recorded on August 17, 1896, with its development spearheaded by three brothers who named it after their hometown, Englewood, Chicago. The area saw growth with the establishment of the Englewood Inn, a 16-room hotel, in 1898, though it burned down in 1909. Historically, the town has expanded its borders across Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
